Laparoscopy-assisted surgery for multiple primary malignant tumors: A case report and review of literature

  • Objective To study the feasibility,effect and prognosis of laparoscopy-assisted surgery for multiple primary malignant neoplasms. Methods Clinical data,surgical procedures and follow-up data about 1 patient with multiple primary malignant neoplasms including gastric adenocarcinoma and rectal adenocarcinoma admitted to our hospital in June 2011 were retrospectively analyzed with the related literature reviewed. Results The patient underwent laparoscopy-assisted low anterior resection and hand-assisted laparoscopic distal gastrectomy under general anesthesia.The operation time was 3.5h and the blood loss was about 50ml.The gastrointestinal function of the patient was recovered on postoperative day 4 with solid diet resumed on postoperative day 9.The patient was discharged on postoperative day 13 with no complications. Conclusion Laparoscopy-assisted surgery is a technically feasible procedure for multiple primary malignant neoplasms.
