Abstract
In this study, 60 patients with essential hypertension were divided into two randomized groups. 30 cases were treated by external counterpulsation (ECP) and 30 treated by durg therapy as control. The efficacy was evaluated after six weeks. The total effective rate was 96.7% and 93.4%, the marked effective rate was 63.3% and 60.0% respectively for two groups. After treatment mean SBP was decreased 6.66kpa, 6.19kpa and mean DBP 3.73kpa, 3.58kpa respectively for two groups. The complications of hypertension, suck as brain, heart and kidney troubles, have improved in two groups. This result suggests that ECP is a useful technique for hypertension.
