The diagnostic significance of luteinizing-releasing hormone (LRH) stimulating test in males with various hyponadisms

The results of LH response to rapid injection of 25μg LRH in 12 males with various types of hypogonadism were reported,and compared with it in 5 normal males.The basal levels of LH in primary male hypogonadism（Klinrgrlyrt’s syndrome）were definitely higher than those in normal males（P＜0.001）,but no statistical differences were found between patients with secondary hypogonadism（hypothalamic-pituitary disorders）and normal subjects（P＞0.05）.The peak of LH response to LRH in normal subjects rose in the average of about 7 times over the basal level, being different from that in hypothalamic disorder（isolated hypogonadotropic deficiency）（P＜0.05）. In panhypopituitarism there was no response at all to single LRH injection.The basal and peak values of LH in idiopathic azoospermia were the same as those in normal subjects.Although there was a positive correlation between basal and peak value of LH（r=0.819,P＜0.001）,there was a heterogeneous response to LRH in secondary hypogonadism.It is believed that the LRH stimulating test is helpful to differentiate patients with secondary hypogonadism from normal subjects.
