Continuing nursing care for discharged patients after total cystectomy for urethra reconstruction

Objective To study the role of continuing nursing care in habilitation of discharged patients after total cystectomy for urethra reconstruction. Methods Fifty discharged patients after total cystectomy for urethra reconstruction were selected to receive continuing nursing care.The patients were followed up every week for one month,and then once a month.Their knowledge about habilitation and quality of life was compared before and after discharge. Results The continuing nursing care time of patients was positively related with their medical knowledge about habilitation.A significant difference was found in patients after 1 and 3 months of continuing nursing care and at the time when they were discharged（P＜0.05）. Conclusion Continuing nursing care can eliminate the confusion of patients during rehabilitation because of no available information after discharge,thus showing a tendency of nursing from hospitals to community and home.
