Use of narcotic drugs in 2007 by gerontal inpatients in our hospital

Objective: To evaluate the use of narcotic drugs by gerontal inpatients in our hospital in order to provide a reference basis for the rational use of drugs in clinical practice. Methods: Data on the use of narcotic drugs in 2007 by gerontal inpatients in our hospital were collected and analyzed according to the defined daily dose（DDD） and drug use index（DUI） recommended by WHO. Results: The DUI was ＜ 1.0 for the majority of drugs and not over 0.5 for some of drugs. Conclusion: The use of narcotic drugs in our hospital is fundamentally rational although there are some problems that should be solved.
