Expression and significance of FHIT and TPTEN in gastric carcinoma

Objective: To investigate the expression of fragile histidine triad（FHIT） and phosphatase and tensinhomologue deleted on chromosome ten（PTEN） in gastric carcinoma and their relationship to clinicopathological factors.Methods: Immunohistochemical（S-P） and image analysis methods were used to detect the expression of FHIT and PTEN in the 80cases of gastric carcinoma and their corresponding paracancerous tissues.Results: The positive rate of expression of FHIT、PTEN in 80 gastric carcinoma tissue were 45% and 51.3%,the paracancerous tissues showed all positive 100%;the differences were statistically significant（P＜0.05）.FHIT expression had no correlation with the degree of differentiation,range of tumor in invasion,lymph node metastasis（P＞0.05）,but was related with staging（P＞0.05）.PTEN expression was correlated with the differentiation,range of invasion,lymph node metastasis and staging（P＜0.05）.Conclusion: Decrease or absence expression of FHIT and PTEN protein plays an important role in the genesis and development of gastric carcinoma;the two protein can be used to judge carcinomatous biological behaviors and prognosis.
