Expression and significance of FHIT and TPTEN in gastric carcinoma

  • Objective: To investigate the expression of fragile histidine triad(FHIT) and phosphatase and tensinhomologue deleted on chromosome ten(PTEN) in gastric carcinoma and their relationship to clinicopathological factors. Methods: Immunohistochemical(S-P) and image analysis methods were used to detect the expression of FHIT and PTEN in the 80cases of gastric carcinoma and their corresponding paracancerous tissues. Results: The positive rate of expression of FHIT、PTEN in 80 gastric carcinoma tissue were 45% and 51.3%,the paracancerous tissues showed all positive 100%;the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).FHIT expression had no correlation with the degree of differentiation, range of tumor in invasion, lymph node metastasis(P>0.05),but was related with staging(P>0.05).PTEN expression was correlated with the differentiation, range of invasion, lymph node metastasis and staging(P<0.05).Conclusion: Decrease or absence expression of FHIT and PTEN protein plays an important role in the genesis and development of gastric carcinoma;the two protein can be used to judge carcinomatous biological behaviors and prognosis.
