Effects of medium and long chain triacylglycerol on body weight and body fat of hypertriglycerolemia patients with different body mass indexes

  • Objective: To investigate the effects of medium and long chain triacylglycerol(MLCT)and long chain triacylglycerol(LCT)on body weight,body fat and serum triglyceride of hypertriglycerolemia patients with different body mass indexes(BMI). Methods: One hundred and one hypertriglycerolemia patients were recruited in this study.Their age was(52.05±13.2)years and their BMI was(26.22±3.68)kg/m2.The patients were randomly assigned to either MLCT group(n=51)or LCT group(n=50)according to BMI to receive MLCT or LCT for 8 weeks.Anthropometric variable measurement,umbilical CT scanning and blood chemistry were performed to observe changes in body weight,body fat and serum triglyceride before and after intervention with MLCT or LCT. Results: MLCT diet led to a significant decrease in body weight,body fat and triglyceride concentration compared with LCT diet(P<0.05). Conclusion: MLCT is a good diet for overweight hypertriglycerolemia patients to reduce their body weight,body fat and serum triglyceride.
