Study on the nutritional function of a new kind of vegetables——Rumex-k1

  • Objective: To evaluate the nutritional role of Rumex K-1. Methods: 36rats were divided into four groups, fed common sem-i synthetic diet (control) and the similar diet with supplement of Rumex K-1,tomato and kale respectively.During the period two 7d nitrogen balance trials were conducted. After 37d feeding, rats were sacrificed by decapitation.Blood and tissues were collected. Results: With regard to the results of nitrogen balance, hematological parameters, the levels of protein and DNA in tissues as well as the blood lipid, there was no significant difference among four groups. However, the content of MDA in liver of Rumex-fed rats was significantly lower(1.31±0.49mmo/l L)than that in control(2.03±0.58mmo/l L).The Flora accounting of Escherichia coli of both intestine (feces cultivation) and small intestine contents in Rumex K-1,tomato and kale groups was lower than that in control(3.58±3.73),(3.00±2.84),(2.79±2.19) vs.(4.38±4.15)Log N/g.Daily feces excretion in three vegetable supplement groups was more than that in control. Conclusion: Rumex K-1is expected to be a new kind of vegetables since it has the similar nutritional function as tomato and kale and better ability of ant-i oxidation.
