A corelation analysis on the degree of coronary and cerebral artery atherosclerosis in 67 autopsy patients

  • Objective:To evaluate the relationship between the degree of cornnary artery atherosclerosis and that of the cerebral arteries.Methods:67 autopsy patients with coronary heart disease (mean age 75.4±9.1, range 47-95 years) were investigated corelatively for the degree of CAS and cerebral artery atherosclerosis (including internal carotid artery, ICA; vertebrobasilar artery, VBA; and middle cerebral artery, MCA). Results:(1)As a whole, the degree of CAS was closely related to that of ICA and VBA (P<0.05);(2)44 CHD cases without hypertension gave a significant-corelarion between CAS and ICA and VBA (P<0.05);(3)21 cases complicated with myocardial infarction also revealed a positive relation between CAS and VBA and MCA (P<0.05);(4)But in 23 patients complicated with hypertension, there was no significant corelation (P>0.05). Conclusion:The above data present an obvious positive corelation in the degree of CAS and ICA, VBA and MCA, and the severity of cerebral artery atherosclerosis may reflect the status of CAS.
