Study on the relationship between C-reactive protein and serum protein in hemodialysis patients

Objective: To study the correlation between C-reactive protein （CRP） level and serum albumin, prealbumin and transferrin in maintenance hemodialysis patients. Methods: This study enrolled in 56 maintenance hemodialysis patients who were followed up for more than 6 months in dialysis center of XuanWu hospital. The serum levels of CRP, hemoglobin, albumin, prealbumin, transferrin were measured. Blood urea nitrogen was measured in order to calculate urea clearance index before and after hemodialysis. The patients were divided into high CRP group and normal CRP group. Results: Alb, pre-Alb and TF were much more lower in high CRP group comparing with the normal CPRP group （P＜0.05）. There was negative correlation between CRP and Alb, pre-Alb and TF. However, there was no correlation between CRP and Kt/v by statistics analysis.Conclusion: CRP may be a useful marker for prognoses the concentration of serum protein in hemodialysis patients.
