Investigation of the metabolic syndrome prevalence in the community of old inhabitants and the effect of mandatory interference on life style

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the occurrence and risk factors of metabolic syndrome(MS) in 136 communities inhabited mainly by old army officers,and to characterize the effect of life style mandatory interference on MS and decreasing its risk factors. Methods: In 2004,2 335 army retired officers who were regular inhabitants in 136 army communities were undertaken scanning and evaluation of MS.Objects who were clearly diagnosed as MS were received health knowledge education and mandatory interference on diet,exercise and life style. Results: Among 2 335 objects investigated,28.7% were found MS,and(6.9%) were revealed having 4 risk factors.The daily diet constituents tended to be rational after mandatory interference,which resulted in weight loss by an average of 2~4 kg. Conclusion: Routine examination on high-risk MS groups would help to early diagnose MS clinically. Mandatory interference on life style might improve the knowledge on health of old people,and active preventive be beneficial to treat MS.
