Arthroscopic minimal invasive procedure for bone cyst of femoral head and neck

Objective To study the therapeutic effect of arthroscopic minimal invasive procedure on bone cyst of femoral head and neck. Methods Nine patients with bone cyst of femoral head and neck（6 males,3 females,at a mean age of 43 years） were admitted to our department from August 2005 to April 2008.Arthroscopic bone cyst tissue curettage was performed by drilling a guide wire into the center of the cyst from the distal site of the large trochanter and screwing a trepan into the cyst.An injective form of calcium sulphate was implanted into the cyst and the bone channel orifice was filled with bone fragments. Results Eight patients were followed up for 6-40 months（mean 26.7 months） after operation.X-ray showed that the implanted calcium sulphate was adhered to the bone fragments and cyst with no recurrence in any patient.The Horris score was increased from 69 before operation to 92 after operation. Conclusion Arthroscopic minimal invasive procedure can completely erase the inner wall of the cyst and promote the healing of bone grafts with a small operative wound and satisfactory outcomes.The patients can rapidly recover after the procedure.
