Clinical report of elderly edentulous patients in a small community of Beijing

Objective: To assess the current state of edentia and prosthetic treatment of elderly people in a small community of Beijing. Methods: Edentulous patients were examined when they went to hospital to be checked out annually. Results: Edentulous rate was 2.3%, edentia in maxilla rate was 1.2%, edentia in mandible rate was 0.4%. Prosthetic treatment rate was 100%.Edentulous TMD rates were 5.3%,10%,16.6% respectively. For the condition of alveolar ridge,high:middle:low level ridge rate equals 1:1.3:1.5 in maxilla of edentulous group;1:5.6:6 in mandible of edentulous group;1:1.1:1.1 in edentia in maxilla.1:2:3 in edentia in mandible. Conclusion: Edentulous prosthetic treatment rate was 100% in this special group. All patients were cared for carefully. In order to enhance the function of mastication complete implant denture should be more used in elderly people.
