The polyphenols content of green tea samples collected in different months and its nutrition significance

  • Objective:The aim of this study is investigating the content of biological active materials(tea polyphenols) of green tea collected in different time and discussing about nutritional significance.Methods:All samples were collected from 5 different areas of Dazhangshan tea farm of Wuyuan county of Jiangxi province.The collecting time was in August 2000,March 2001,April 2001,May 2001 respectively.Green tea was processed according to the ordinary procedures.The biological active materials were determined,including nine kinds of tea polyphenol compounds(Catechin,EC,GC,EGC,EGCG,ECG,GCG,ProcyanidinsB2, ProcyanidinsB3),flavonols,gallic acid and derivants of gallic acid.Results:The highest total amount of tea polyphenols was found in green tea collected in April,the amount is about 32.3% of weight of green tea.It is 1.14 times of tea collected in March,1.34 times of tea collected in May,2.45 times of tea collected in August.The sequence of total tea polyphenol contents in green tea is April > May > March > August.The content of main functional factor EGCG of green tea also was showed the same tendency.Conclusion:The tea polyphenols content has obviously difference among 5 green tea samples which collected in different months.
