Effects of tripterygium wilfordii polyglco sidium on the fibrinous membrane formation of transscleral fixation posterior chamber intraocular lense implantation in rabbits

  • Objective:To examine the pathological changes and morphological features of the fibrinous membrane formation on implanted transscleral fixation posterior chamber intraocular lensee (PC IOLs), and to study the effects of tripterygium wilfordii polyglyco sidium (TWP) on the fibrinous memberane of IOL in rabbits. Methods:Eighteen adult pigmented rabbits wee equally divided into two groups: (1)Rabbits with lens intracapsular extraction and transscleral fixation PC IOL; (2)Rabbits received TWP therapy after transscleral fixation PC IOL. IOLs were extracted on days 1、7 and 14 after IOL implantation, and the pathological changes of IOLs were observed with light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Statistic data were analyzed by rank sum test of SAS soft were. Results:It was found that the fibrinous memberane formation on IOL on lst, 7th and 14th postoperative days was significantly lower in TWP treated group than that in untreated transscleral fixation PC IOL implantation group, Conclusion:The current study offers that TWP is effective in reducing postoperative fibrinous memberane formation on IOL, and it may be closely related to the anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressiue effects of TWP.
