Observation of effects of BCG bladder irrigation in treating bladder cancer

This report summarized the experience about BCG bladder irrigation used in 12 cases of bladder cancer. BCG bladder irrigation was found to be superior to TUR or thiotepa bladder irrigation in preventing tumor recurrence. It is presumed that the mechnism of the effect ot BCG irrigation may be the combined action of local nonspecitic inflammation and immune stimulation. Because tests on patient’s immune function were not done before commencement of the treatment, the reslts do not indicate the actual effect of BCG bladder irrigation.
