Indications of operation for recurrent intracranial glioma and its prognosis

Objective To investigate the indications of operation for recurrent intracranial glioma and its prognosis. Methods Clinical data about 47 patients with recurrent intracranial glioma admitted to our department in January 2005-December 2007 were retrospectively analyzed. Results Of the 47 patients,27 underwent total resection and 20 subtotal of the tumor,respectively.The score for the Kamofsky performance status（KPS）after operation was 50-90（mean 78.30）.The survival time after operation was 3-22 months（mean 11.62 months）.Multivariate analysis showed that pathologic type,operation interval,and surgical excision extent were related with the prognosis of patients. Conclusion Active surgical treatment can improve the quality of life of patients with their intracranial glioma relapsed≥12 months after operation and prolong their survival time if their tumor is classified as 1-2 according to the WHO classification.
