The evaluation of recombinant human growth hormone treatment for burn injury

  • Objective:To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of recombinant human growth hormone(rhGH) treatment for severe burn injury.Methods:20patients with burn wounds covering over 50% of total body surface area were enrolled in this placebo controlled prospective study.They were comparable in nutrient intake,Indices about protein metabolism,wound healing,hepatic and renal function and blood were measured regularly.Results:All patients survived;the rhGH group had less weight loss,increased level of serum albumin pre-albumin and shorter healing time of deep partia-l thickness burn and donor site.Conclusion:rhGH treatment for severe burn injury has obvious beneficial effects with slight side-effects.
