Primary medullary hemorrhage

  • Two cases of primary medullary hemorrhage were reported in this paper. The clinical manifestations of case was quite similar to these found in thrombosis of vertebrobasilar artery. Case 2 had three episodes of medullary hemorrhage over a period of two years, and was free of symptoms during 11-year follow up. The author suggested that in patients with intramedullary symptoms and blood spinal fluid the diagnosis of medullary hemorrhage should be considered and computerized tomography of the brain often confirms the diagnosis. As to the etiology of this disease, besides arteriosclerosis, arterovenous malformations ought to be considered, especially when the following conditions are present: 1. patients are young; 2. there are no serious simptoms and 3. course of disease is long with recurrent attacks.
