Prediction of prostate cancer by contrast-enhanced transrectal ultrasound with parametric imaging

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the application of contrast-enhanced transrectal ultrasound with parametric imaging in prediction of suspicious prostate cancer patients with no significant foci. Methods A total of 30 prostate cancer patients with increased PSA level but no foci in gray-scale ultrasound underwent contrast-enhanced transrectal ultrasound and biopsy of prostate on the same day.Contrast-enhanced transrectal ultrasound imaging at the base,middle and apex parts of prostate were observed and analyzed using the SonoProstate software. Results Of the 19 patients with pathology-confirmed prostate cancer,15 were diagnosed according to their imaging parameters.Of the 11 patients with pathology-confirmed prostate hyperplasia,9 were diagnosed according to their imaging parameters.No significant difference was found in parametric imaging of contrast-enhanced ultrasound and ultrasound-guided biopsy(P=0.687). Conclusion Contrast-enhanced transrectal ultrasound with parametric imaging are helpful to find the suspicious areas of prostate cancer and direct biopsy in patients with increased PSA level but no significant foci.
