Growth hormone （GH） level and dynamic test in patients with acromegaly after surgery and radiotherapy

Serum GH levels were measured and dynamic tests were performed in 17 patients with ituitery GH adenoma after surgery and/or radiotherapy, or after apoplexy （2 cases）. OGTT was one in all patients and ITT, in 11. In 9 patients whose clinical condition had improved and asic serum GH dropped to less than 5 ng/ml, normal GH response to both OGTT and ITT was found n only 1 case, abnormal response to both tests in 3 eases; normal to OGTT but abnormal to ITT n 3 cases; 1 normal and 1 abnormal in 2 cases in which only OGTT was done. In 2 patients whose asic serum GH ranged 5—10 ng/ml, all had abnormal GH response to OGTT and ITT, but 1 case mproved clinically. In 6 patients with basic GH levels more than 10 ng/ml, their GH response o GTT and ITT was abnormal in all, but two cases slso markedly improved clinically. The results showed that normalization of GH response to OGTT and ITT were unlikely in most patients with GH adenoma after therapy even though normal basic GH levels and improved clinical condition had been achieved.
