Therapeutic effect of teicoplanin on prostatitis of rats

Objective To study the therapeutic effect of teicoplanin on prostatitis（BP） of rats. Methods Male SD rats with normal prostate（NP） and BP were injected with teicoplanin（100mg/kg） through the tail vein, once a day for 5 days.Serum and prostate were isolated, respectively, from the rats.Serum antibiotic activities were detected by agar diffusion and minimal bacteriostatic concentration（MIC）.Pathogenic bacteria, isolated from the prostate, were cultured and calculated.After 1-5 weeks of treatment with teicoplanin, prostate was isolated from the rats with BP for pathological examination. Results In the first 4 days after treatment with teicoplanin, the number of bacteria was decreased in samples from the prostate of rats treated with teicoplanin.After 5 days of treatment with teicoplanin, no bacteria could be detected in 83.3% of rat prostates.Antibiotic activities were detected in serum and prostates 10-150 min after treatment with antibiotics.Pathologic tests showed obvious exudation and leukocyte invasion in prostate tissues of BP rats.Teicoplanin treatment and the reduced bacteria obviously alleviated the inflammation in prostates of BP rats. Conclusion Intravenous injected teicoplanin can penetrate the prostate of BP rats.Since the antibiotic concentration may be equal to or higher in rat prostate tissues than in serum, susceptive bacteria in prostates can be killed, and inflammation caused by Grampositive bacteria can be alleviated and damaged prostate tissues can be effectively repaired.
