Abstract
White keratotic patches on the mucous membrane in the region of the hamular process of the soft palate is relatively rare. According to our experience, it is closely related with its local irritation. Therefor, it is necessary to know: what is the major irritation causing the damage on the mucous membrane in this particular region; Are there some special local anatomical factors which directly or indirectly affect the development of the lesion: Can it be diagnosed as "leakoplakia" on histological examination; and is there any pathological change in the underlying tissues? If there is no thorough knowledge concering those problems, it is very difficult to prevent and treat such a disease. For this prupose, we have carried out a set of experiments and have collected a series of cases for clinical study.
During the period of 1974—1982, 17 cases have been treated, their clinical data of which being analyzed and discussed in this paper.
