Observation of fibrin shell formation during peripheral insertion of central catheter and its management

  • Objective To observe and manage the formation of fibrin shell during peripheral insertion of central catheter(PICC) in order to reduce its smoothness. Methods Formation of fibrin shell during PICC was observed and recorded. Results The rate of fibrin shell formation was 8.3% and the reflow rate was 83.3% after management. Conclusion Nurses should understand the cause of fibrin shell formation and how to handle and manage it in order to improve the quality of catheter and its service time,and reduce the pain of patients,thus improving their life quality.
