Correlation of CEA,CA125 and CYFRA21-1 with CT characteristics of lung adenocarcinoma

  • Objective To study the correlation between tumor markers and CT characteristics of lung adenocarcinoma. Methods CT characteristics and serum tumor markers(CEA,CA125 and CYFRA21-1) of 162 patients with lung adenocarcinoma confirmed by pathology were retrospectively analyzed.CT findings including the tumor size,density and enhancement,lobulation,spiculation,bronchial obstruction,bronchovascular convergency,pleural indentation,cavity,bubble-like space of the lesion,and metastasis were assessed and correlated with the levels of serum tumor markers. Results The elevated serum levels of tumor markers(CEA,CA125 and CYFRA21-1) were positively correlated with tumor diameter(r=0.183,0.276 and 0.355,respectively).Bronchial obstruction was more frequently observed in patients with a high level of CEA,CA125 and CYFRA21-1 than in normal controls.The incidence of pleural indentation was low.However,the serum CEA and CA125 levels were lower in patients with ground-glass opacity than in those without ground-glass opacity.The incidence of spiculation was lower in patients with elevated serum CA125 and CYFRA21-1 levels than in normal controls.The serum CEA,CA125 and CYFRA21-1 levels were higher in patients with metastasis and poorlydifferentiated tumors than in normal controls. Conclusion Serum CEA,CA125,and CYFRA21-1 levels are significantly correlated with CT characteristics of patients with lung adenocarcinoma and play a limited role in early diagnosis of lung adenocarcimona.However,they can be used as predictors for the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma.
