Thyroid dysfunction in diabetes mellitus

Six hundred and twenty-two cases of diabetes（342 males and 280 females）admitted to our hospital from April 1958 to May,1986 were reviewed.Among these,31 cases were associated with thyroid dysfunction（27 of hyperthyroidism and 4 of hypothyroidism）,the incidence of thyroid dysfunction in diabetes（4.98%）being higher than that in non diabetic patients（1.58% or 1,418/89,617）hospitalized in the medical department in the same period.In the latter group of patients there were 1,318 case-times of hyperthyroidism and 100 case-times of hypothyroidism. The aetiological foctors of thyroid dysfunction in diabetes and the relationship between these two diseases were accordingly discussd.
