Clinical outcome of vaginal total hysterectomy and laparoscopy-assisted vaginal hysterectomy: A comparative study

  • Objective To compare the clinical outcome of vaginal total hysterectomy(VTH) and laparoscop-assisted vaginal hysterectomy(LAVH). Methods Types of disease, operation time, intraoperative bleeding, hospital stay time and postoperative recovery were compared in 203 women who underwent hysterectomy from September 2008 to March 2010 in our department.Of these patients,132 underwent VTH and 71 LAVH. Results No significant difference was found in operation time, blood loss, and resected uterus size between the two groups of patients undergoing VTH and LAVH,respectively(P<0.05),but a significant difference was observed in postoperative recovery and hospital stay time between the two groups of patients. Conclusion LAVH can be performed in those with pelvic adhesion or with a large uterus in order to reduce complications.
