The Study on the Androgen Receptor in Colorectal Adenocarcinoma

Androgen receptors (AR) in cancer tissue and adjacent normal mucosa in 40 patients with colorectal adenocarcinoma were measured by radioligand binding assay (RLBA), and the relationship between AR and the clinical pathological changes in these patients was investigated meanwhile. The following results were obtained: The amount of AR in colorectal carcinoma (33.7士 23.3 fmol/mg. protein) were less than that of normal mucosa adjacent 5cm away from the carcinoma (53.9± 32.4 fmol/mg.protein), but the affinities were similar; the difference of AR number in carcinoma and normal mucosa was closely related to female. Rectal neoplasms with higher and earlier Dukes' stage. The data indicated that AR play an important role in colorectal carcinoma, grade and set a basis for clinical diagnosis and endocrine therapy of colorectal cancers.
