Clinical signifi cance of HPV-DNA genotyping in detection of cervical exfoliated cells

  • Objective To study the clinical significance of HPV-DNA genotyping in prevention and treatment of cervical cancer. Methods HPV-DNA genotypes in cervical exfoliated cells from 1 197 outpatients at gynecology clinic were detected by PCR-based flow through gene chip hybridization technique.Positive HPV-DNA rate and distribution of HPV-DNA genotypes in different age groups were compared. Results The total HPV-DNA positive rate was 24.3%.It was significantly higher in 18-25-year group(45.9%) than in other age groups. The HPV-DNA positive rate tended to decreases with age.Except for genotypes 35 and 43,of the other 19 HPV-DNA genotypes detected,high-risk and low-risk genotypes accounted for 83.86% and 16.14%,respectively.The top 4 high-risk genotypes were types 16,58,52 and 18,accounting for15.08%,14.02 %,12.70% and 6.61% of all the high-risk genotypes, respectively. Conclusion Twenty-one HPV-DNA genotypes can be detected by HPV-DNA genotyping, which can thus be used in diagnosis and epidemiological study of multiple HPV infections.
