Experience in treatments of 12 emergency patients with adrenocortical crisis

Objective To summarize our experience in treatment of emergency patients with adrenocortical crisis in order to improve its diagnosis and treatment. Methods Data about the treatment of 12 emergency patients with adrenocortical crisis were analyzed. Results All the patients presented with hyperpyrexia and peripheral circulatory failure when they visited our emergency department.Laboratory tests showed hyponatremia,hypoglycemia,hyperkalemia and low serum corticosteroid levels in the patients.The patients were completely recovered and discharged from hospital after they were treated by supplementing corticosteroid with their electrolyte disturbances corrected and predisposing causes removed. Conclusion Prompt diagnosis and treatment of patients with adrenocortical crisis can increase their survival rate.
