Angiostrongylus cantonensis: A report of three cases

  • Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics and diagnosis of angiostrongylus cantonensis. Methods Diagnosis of 3 cases was analyzed based on the review of literature. Results Of the 3 cases,2 were misdiagnosed as tuberculosis meningitis since they had no clear history of infection with angiostrongylus,their eosinophil count was normal and their CSF test was similar to tuberculosis meningitis.The other case with a history of infection with angiostrongylus was diagnosed as eosinopilocytosis since eosinophils were found in cerebrospinal fluid. Conclusion Angiostrongylus cantonensis can be diagnosed based on the history of infection with angiostrongylus,physical examination,clinical symptoms and imaging examination.Chemotherapy is effective against angiostrongylus cantonensis.
