Effect of combined narrow band ultraviolet B and tazarrotene gel on psoriasis vulgaris

Objective To study the efficacy and safety of combined narrow band-ultraviolet B（NB-UVB） and tazarrotene gel in treatment of psoriasis vulgaris. Methods Two hundred and forty patients with psoriasis vulgaris were divided into groups A,B and C,80 patients in each group.Patients in group A were treated with combined NB-UVB radiation（once a day） and topical tazarrotene gel cream in the evening.Patients in group B were treated with topical tazarrotene gel cream in the evening,and patients in group C received treatment with NB-UVB radiation,once every other day for 8 weeks. Results The effective rate was 82.9%,62.8% and 73.3% for the 3 groups,respectively.The distinction of PASI score in 3 groups was significantly different before and after treatment（P＜0.05）.The effective rate of combined NB-UVB radiation and topical tazarrotene gel cream was the highest followed by that of topical tazarrotene gel and NB-UVB radiation（P＜0.05）.Only mild erythemas and itching were observed in the 3 groups during the treatment and no severe side effect occurred. Conclusion Combined NB-UVB and tazarrotene gel is effective and safe in treatment of psoriasis vulgaris.
