The effect of low dosager acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) on old patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease——A study of the clinic effect, blood drug concentration and inhibition of platelet aggregation

  • Thirty old men aged 62-93 years (mean 69.23 years) suffering from ischemic erebrovascular disease were treated with oral low dosage ASA, 100mg ordinary ASA daily or 00mg nteric-coated ASA every other day. Their therapeutic effects were satisfactory. It has been ound that the blood ASA concentration, as determined in 12 patients and 14 mormal subjects, eached its peak level 2-4 hourse after ingestion and gradually faded away 24 hourse after dministration. The effects of inhibition on platelet aggregation were tested in 10 patients nd ormal subjects. The result showed that a single dose of ASA is capable to produce sustained nhibition on platelet aggregation up to 7 days. These findings indicate that this satisfactory ntiplatelet aggregation effect may be abtained in the management of ischemic cerebro vascular isease or prevention of stroke in the elderly.
