Specific inhibitors of cyclooxygenase 2 in combine with muscle relaxant in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis

Objective: To observe the efficacy and safety of Specific inhibitor of cyclooxygenase 2(COX-2)in combine with muscle relaxant in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis(OA).Methods: Randomized trial，two controlled groups each with 43 cases with knee OA were included.statistically analyzed the difference of therapeutic efficacy between experiment group treated with Specific inhibitor of COX-2(Rofecoxib) in combine with muscle relaxant and control group treated with Rofecoxib only. Results: After 8 weeks of treatment，the combined medication group got a apparent efficiency ratio of 34.2% while the control group only had 18.5%.Experiment group provided efficacy advantages over control group in therapeutic efficacy，WOMAC and OA Severity index.Conclution: muscle relaxant can efficiently relax the protective muscle spasm around the jiont due to the pain and defer the degeneration and fibrous ankylosis of the jiont compare with limited activity.Cyclooxygenase 2(COX-2) in combine with muscle relaxant in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (OA) is more effectively than use COX-2 only.
