Percutaneous autogenous bone marrow grafting for bone defect repairing in rabbits:A histological study

  • Objective: An experimental study was made to observe the osteogenetic property of percutaneous autogenous bone marrow grafting for bone defect repairing. Methods: A l cm bone defect was made on the middle portion of both radius in total 18 rabbits. After 6 weeks 2 ml autogenus bone marrow was injected percutaneously into scar tissue of the right side and 2ml peripheral blood into the left. The animals were killed after 1,2,3,4,8 weeks respectively, and the histological changes were studied. Results: On the right side, the cartilage formation was found 1 week after injection. The osteogenisis were observed after 2 weeks. After 8 weeks the bone defect on the right side was fully filled with bony tissues. On the other hand, not any osteogenetic peroperty was found 8 weeks after peripheral blood injection on the left side. Conclusion: The percutaneous bone marrow autografting has the osteogenetic property and also repair bone defect. But the peripheral blood has not may found any evidence of bone formation and the bone defect can not be repaired either.
