General anesthesia of swine in implantation of autologous pericardium into abdominal aorta valve

Abstract
Objective To evaluate the feasibility and reliability of general anesthesia of swine in implantation of autologous pericardium into abdominal aorta valve. Methods Sixteen male or female domestic swines,weighting 22-43kg(range 29.75±6.26) kg,were used in this study. The swines were fasted for 12h before experiment,anesthetized with ketamin(6mg/kg), midazoplam(0.2mg/kg), and 0.3mg scopolamine and placed at a supine position on the operating table. The swines were intubated and mechanically ventilated with oxygen through an endotracheal tube. Anesthesia was maintained with propofol,fentanyl and arduan.(Sixteen pieces of autologous pericardial valve were implanted into the abdominal aorta valve by blocking the abdominal aorta.) The protocol was approved by the Animal Welfare Committee of Qingdao University and followed the Guidelines for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. Basic vital signs were observed and physical parameters,including electrolyte and arterial blood gas,were recorded during the procedures. Results Endotracheal intubation in swine was more difficult than in human beings. Anesthesia was maintained with propofol(4mg/(kg·h) and fentanyl 3μg/(kg·h). In addition,arduan 0.27mg/(kg·h) was used as a skeletal muscle relaxant. All the swines became conscious immediately and lived well after operation. Conclusion Ketamine,midazoplam and scopolamine can be used in anesthesia,and propofol,fentanyl and arduan can be used to maintain general anesthesia of swine in implantation of autologous pericardium into abdominal aorta valve.
