Effect of oral health education on elderly patients with complete denture

Objective To study the effects of oral health education in elderly patients with complete denture. Methods A total of 107 edentulous elderly patients were divided into educated group（n=77） and non-educated group（n=30）.Patients in educated group received systematic and corresponding oral health education during their complete denture was made.Width of food plaque on denture surface was measured to evaluate the effects of oral health education using questionnaires. Results The satisfactory rate of the educated and non-educated patients was 88.15% and 73.33%,respectively（P＜0.01）.The width of food plaque on the denture surface was（0.4±0.3）mm and（1.8±0.4）mm,respectively,in educated and non-educated patients（P＜0.01）. Conclusion Oral health education can help to achieve the cooperation of elderly patients and their accompanies,thus improving the satisfactory rate and therapeutic effects of their complete denture.
