Abstract
Objective:In order to study the effect of left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH) on left ventricular remodelling after acute myocardial infarction(AMI).Methods:26 patients with anterior wall AMI were prospectively examined by serial echocardiography in the following seqnence: the first, seventh day, one and three months after being admitted in hospital. left ventricular end-diastolic volume index (LVEDVI), left ventricular end-systolic volume index (LVESVI), ejection fraction (EF), basal interventricular septum(ivs) and posterior wall thickness (PW) were measurd. According to their baseline LV thidckness patients were divided into group I (LVH) and groupⅡ (NLVH)(IVS+pw)=24±1 mm and 20±2 mm respectively). Results:Our study showed that at the end of 3 months, LVEDVI, LVESVI increased in GroupⅡ and didn't in Group Ⅰ (P<0.05) (LVEF). Conclusion:This suggested that baseline LVH is an important factor governing infarct expansion and LV after AMI remodeling.
