Relationship between soft palate and retropatal airway in different posture

  • Objective: To study the relationship between soft palate and retropalatal airway in different posture. Methods: Lateral cephalometry was carried out in 30 male volunteers both in sitting and supine postion. Correlations have been made between the soft palate and retropalatal airway dimensions. Results: Length of soft palate and distance from tip of the uvula to NS were negatively related to the retropalatal airway both in sitting and supine position. Retropaltal airway in supine postion got turned more narrow compared to sitting postion. Conclusion: The length and position of soft palate may provide clinic value in evaluation of retropalatal airway,Posture is an imperminant of retropalatal airway dimensions
