Correlation of serum uric acid level with severity of coronary artery disease and its in-hospital death rate

  • Objective To study the serum uric acid level in patients with coronary artery disease and its correlation with severity of coronary artery disease and other biochemical metabolic indicators. Methods Clincial data about 654 patients admitted to our hospital in January 2009-January 2010 were collected. The patients were divided into stable angina pectoris(SAP) group, unstable angina pectoris(UAP) group and acute myocardiac infarction(AMI) group.Their serum levels of uric acid and other metabolic markers were mearsured. Results The serum uric acid level was higher in UAP and AMI groups than in SAP group(P<0.01).A statistical difference was observed in serum uric acid levels between the survived and died patients in hospital(P<0.01).The serum uric acid level was positively correlated with C-reactive protein(CRP) and blood creatinine levels(r=0.199,r=0.247,P<0.05). Conclusion Uric acid is a sentitive indicator of the severity of coronary artery disease and is of important value in prediciting the stability of atheromatous plaques and the prognosis of patients with cardiovascular disease.
