Application of endotoscope in outpatients of Otology Department

Objective To investigate the clinical application of endotoscope in outpatients of otology department. Methods Data about 4 519 outpatients,who underwent endotoscopy at Otology Department of Chinese PLA General Hospital from October 2004 to June 2009,were analyzed. Results The top 10 diagnosis with endotoscope were chronic otitis media in 1 607 cases,suspending diagnosis in 991 cases,normal external auditory canal and tympanic membrane in 713 cases,perforation of tympanic membrane in 678 cases including 49 trauma cases,external auditory canal cholesteatoma in 96 cases,external auditory canal tumor in 70 cases,post-operation of radical mastoidectomy in 66 cases,postoperation of tympanoplasty in 57 cases,post-operation of myringoplasty in 40 cases,otitis media with effusion and stenosis or atresia of external auditory canal in 24 cases respective and trauma in 19 cases. Conclusion Endotoscope can be widely applied in outpatients of otology department and has advantages in observing the external auditory canal,tympanic membrane and cavity,ear trauma and post-operation follow-up.
