Splenectomy for treatment of heopathy: review and analysis of 30 cases

  • 30 cases of hemopathy were treated by splenectomy during a period from 1964 to 1987 ere reviewed and analysed. The ages of the patients varied from 1.5 to 51 years with an verage f 19 years, 57.7% being children or adolescents. Thrombopenic purpura (TP), the most common isease in this group, is present in 12 cases, including primary TP and secondary TP (only one ase). The remission rate was 83.3% after splenectomy. Hemoglobin in patients with hereditary pherocytosis (8 cases) or eliptocytosis (3 cases) was increased by an average of 4.9g/dl as ompared with the preoperative value (P<0.01). Other disease including mediterranean anemia (4 ases), non-reason hypersplenism (2 cases) and Gaucher’s disease (1 case) were discussed in the rticle.
