Establishment of experimental model of acute heart failure in dogs with open abdominal injury induced by sea water immersion

  • Objective To establish an experimental model of acute heart failure(AHF)in dogs with open abdominal injury induced by sea water immersion. Methods Twenty-three healthy adult dogs were divided into open abdominal injury group(n=15)as group A and AHF model group n=8)as group B.After 0.5,1 and 2h of sea water immersion in group A,AHF was induced,and hemodynamic change in groups A and B was detected by sonography and BNP. Results AHF was induced in 8 dogs(53.3%)in group A.After sea water immersion,the heart rate,SBP,SDP,MAP,CVP were significantly higher in group A than in group B.Two hours after sea water immersion,the PAWP was 25±2.3mmHg,and the CO was 46.67%and 48.39%in group A,which were higher than those in group B(P<0.01).The levels of LVEDV,LVESV,SV,and LVEF were significantly higher in group A than in group B(P<0.05).The BNP was 622.77±52.21pg/mL in group A,which was increased by 441.6%compared with before injury and was 302.8% higher than in group B(P<0.001). Conclusion Open abdominal injury induced by sea water immersion can be used to establish the model of AHF.
