Abstract
Objective To study the correlation between serum cystatin C(CysC) and coronary heart diseases(CHD) in gerontal patients with hypertension. Methods Ninety eight consecutive patients at a mean age of 82.4 years who underwent coronary angiography were divided into CHD group(n=62) and non CHD group(control group,n=36).Their serum CysC level was measured.CHD patients were further divided into single angiopathy group and multiple angiopathy group.Correlation between CysC and CHD was analyzed. Results The serum CysC level was significantly higher in CHD group than in control group(P<0.01) with no statistical difference between single angiopathy group and multiple angiopathy group(P>0.05).The serum CysC level was still higher in CHD group than in control group after the serum creatinin level was adjusted(P<0.05).Conclusion Serum CysC level is correlated with CHD independent of serum creatinin level but not with the severity of angiopathy.
