The application of iodine gas staining for conduction system in experimental study and clinical practice during cardiac surgery

To avoid a possible surgical damage of the conduction system we stained the conduction bundle with iodine gas in expiremental and clinical practice during cardiac surgery. The right bundle branches were stained as brown by naked eyes and identified by ECG and pathology. In 10 cases of patients, except 2 of Tetrad of Fallot （TOF） having the right bundle branch block, the ECG showed no abnormal changes. T ₄T ₃ and liver funtion tests were in normal range. The results show that iodine gas spraying conduction system staining is a convenient and feasible method and no any abverse effects. It may avoid conduction system surgical damage on congenital heart disease surgery.
