Serial SEPs observation in brain infarction patients with venom “Xiao Shuan Ling” therapy (Analysis of 30 cases)

  • SEPs were evaluated in 30 brain infarction cases with a study of its clinical and SEP changes before and after therapy. The predominant abnormalities were the reduced amplitude and poor definition. Some peaks were subsided, especially in the affected hemisphere, consisting of delayed peak latencies. The voltages of early and/or late components were attenuated. SEPs were flat or absent in 5 cases. In unaffected lateral 6 cases there was a characteric morphology, N2-N3 interpeak latencies and peak N3 durations being prolonged than control values. The total effective rate was 96.7% and the results display a close positive correlation between clinical improvement and SEPs recovery.
