Laparoscopic anterior resection of 32 patients with rectal cancer

  • Objective: To summarize the clinical results of laparoscopic anterior resection of rectal cancer. Methods: 32 cases of rectal cancer were operated on with laparoscopy. Results: All cases were underwent successfully and no complication was observed. All of the resected specimens were free of tumor in margin of clearance,and lymphovascular clearance was sufficient.The average number of resected lymph nodes was 9. Patients recovered quicker and first bowel movement were earlier,postoperational flatus and feces were passed at 31 hours.Pain at rest and in motion was significantly reduced and postoperational hospital stay were shorter(7.5days). No trocar port implantation in follow-up was observed. Conclusion: Our study demonstrates that laparoscopic anterior resection of rectal cancer can be safely performed and have advantages over traditional resection with the same oncologic results achieved.
