Abstract
Objective To study the clinical characteristics of solid pseudopapillary tumor of pancreas(SPTP) and its treatment modalities. Methods Clinical data about 102 SPTP patients admitted to our hospital from October 2001 to June 2010 were retrospectively analyzed. Results The average age of the 102 patients(89 females and 13 males) was 29.27 years(range 9-71 years). The tumor was located in pancreatic head of 34 patients,in pancreatic neck of 19 patients,in pancreatic body and tail in 49 patients.Of the 99 patients treated with surgery,29 underwent simple resection of pancreatic tumor,15 underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy,11 underwent tumor resection plus pancreaticojejunostomy,26 underwent distal pancreatectomy,16 underwent distal pancreatectomy plus spleen resection,1 underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy plus hepatic metastasis resection,1 underwent abdominal exploration, and 1 received radiotherapy and chemotherapy,2 received no therapy.Eighty-nine patients were followed up for an average time of 26.98 months, during which 1 patient died of tumor relapse and metastasis and the condition of 1 patient who did not undergo operation progressed, while no evidence of relapse and metastasis was found in other patients. Conclusion SPTP occurs more frequently in young females and is potentially malignant. Its clinical manifestations, imaging and laboratory tests are lack of specificity while its diagnosis can be established with pathology.Surgical resection is the first choice of treatment for it with a good prognosis.
