Abstract
Objective To study the curative effect of transanal endoscopic microsurgery(TEM) on benign and malignant rectal tumors. Methods Clinical data about 15 patients undergoing TEM from September 2008 to April 2010 in our hospital were analyzed. The median age of the patients was(56±19)years.The tumor diameter was 1.9cm and the distance between tumor lower edge and anal margin was(9.7±4.5)cm.The average blood loss during operation was(15±5)ml.The operation time was(65±32)min. Results TEM was successfully performed in all the patients with no patient transferred to laparotomy. The average hospital stay time was 3.6d with no death, recurrence and complication occurred. The average follow-up time was 12 months. Conclusion TEM is a new endoscopic, laparoscopic and minimally invasive procedure for benign and malignant rectal tumors with the advantages of small wound, less bleeding and short hospital stay time.
