Effect of low-dose aspirin use on large intestine polyps in elderly

  • Objective: To investigate effect of low-dose aspirin use on large intestine polyps in elderly. Methods: 52 subjects using low-dose aspirin and 63 controls were analyzed retrospectively according to colonoscopy examination results. Results: Large intestine polyp burden per year in subjects using low-dose aspirin for 4~6 years was lower significantly than that in subjects before using aspirin (1.3±1.8)vs(2.9±5.2)mm per year, P <0.05 .The polyp burden after using aspirin for 0~2 years (2.6±6.6)mm per yearand 2~4 years(2.0±3.8)mm per year was not different in comparison with that before using aspirin respectively(P >0.05). Conclusions: Long-term low-dose aspirin use in elderly can inhibit growth of large intestine polyps.
